A good lawn starts with what you do before the turf goes down. Ground preparation, topsoil quality and getting the levels right are what make the difference between a lawn that establishes well and one that is patchy, lumpy or prone to waterlogging. We lay turf and prepare ground for seeding for domestic customers across Norfolk and Suffolk. Before recommending anything we assess your soil quality, drainage and sunlight. The grass variety that suits a shaded back garden in Norwich is not the same as the one that will do well on a free-draining plot in the Broads. Getting that right at the start saves a lot of frustration later. We prepare the site meticulously, making sure grading and drainage are correct before a roll of turf or a handful of seed goes down. We use premium grade turf only, and we give you honest aftercare guidance so the lawn stays healthy well beyond the first season.

How We Work
-
Ground preparation
We rotovate, remove debris and improve the topsoil with additional material where needed. This is the most important step.
-
Levelling
We grade and level the area, creating falls away from buildings. No amount of good turf will compensate for a poorly levelled base.
-
Turf laying
Premium grade turf is laid in staggered rows, joints butted tightly. Edges are cut cleanly. The surface is rolled lightly after laying.
-
Aftercare
We give you specific advice on watering in the first weeks, which varies depending on the time of year and the weather.
Materials and Options
Turf gives you an instant result and you can walk on it lightly within a few weeks. It costs more than seed but establishes much faster. The best time to lay turf is spring or autumn when the ground is moist and temperatures are moderate. Summer laying is possible but requires consistent watering. Seed is significantly cheaper per square metre and gives you access to a much wider range of grass varieties, including drought-tolerant and shade-tolerant mixes. The downside is that a seeded lawn needs eight to twelve weeks before it can be used, and bare soil needs protecting from birds in the early weeks.

What Our Customers Say
Genuine reviews from clients across Norfolk and Suffolk
"Hilton and Green did an amazing job transforming the space next to our new In summer house. Not easy as the land sloped away badly. Very hard working and professional men. Four years on it is still as good as new. Thoroughly recommend them."
