Driveway Installation Norfolk 02

A new driveway is a significant investment and the finish has a big impact on the front of your property. We install block paving, resin-bound gravel and concrete driveways across Norfolk and Suffolk. Whatever the surface, the preparation underneath is what determines how well it lasts. Poor sub-base work is the most common reason driveways fail early, and it is also the part of the job that is hardest to fix after the fact. We talk through all the surface options at the initial visit. Each has different costs, maintenance requirements and appearances. The right choice depends on your budget, the look you want and practical factors like drainage, particularly if you are covering a large area of what was previously permeable ground.

What's included

  • Excavation and removal of existing surface
  • Compacted sub-base installation
  • Edge restraint installation
  • Surface laying: block, resin or concrete
  • Drainage channel where required
  • Sealing (resin surfaces)
  • Waste removal

How We Work

  1. Survey and planning

We assess the existing surface, drainage, levels and access. We discuss surface options, edging and any drainage channels required.

  2. Excavation

We excavate to the depth required for the chosen surface plus sub-base. Old materials are removed and disposed of.

  3. Sub-base and edging

MOT Type 1 sub-base is laid and compacted in layers. Edge restraints are installed to the correct levels.

  4. Surface installation

Block paving is laid to pattern, cut and compacted with kiln-dried sand brushed in. Resin-bound surface is mixed on site and trowelled to a consistent depth. Concrete is poured and finished to falls.

  5. Finishing

Resin driveways are left to cure before use. Block paving is given a final compact and sand brush. We clean the site and remove all waste.

Materials and Options

Block paving is the traditional choice for driveways across Norfolk. It looks well, individual blocks can be lifted and replaced if one is damaged or a pipe needs accessing, and it allows some natural drainage through the joints. The downside is that weeds can establish in the joints over time. Polymeric jointing sand helps significantly, but the joints will need attention periodically. Resin-bound gravel is smooth, fully permeable and SUDS compliant, which matters if you are covering a large area of previously permeable ground. It needs a competent installer to get right and should not be confused with resin-bonded surfaces, which look similar but are not permeable. The distinction matters for planning purposes. Concrete driveways are durable, lower maintenance and work well for straightforward layouts. They offer limited design flexibility compared to block paving, and imprinted or coloured concrete finishes can date more quickly than plain alternatives.
